Volunteer Job Categories at Maumee Bay State Park

A.   Campground Hosts

Campground Hosts serve primarily as public relations liaisons providing information, assisting with

Rent-A-Camp and performing other assorted functions.

Examples of duties include:

·    Welcoming campers.

·    Acquainting visitors with the park and surrounding area.

·    Explaining regulations to visitors.

·    Light maintenance work (e.g., replacing light bulbs, weeding, etc.).

·    Sweeping, monitoring conditions of and stocking restrooms.

·    Setting a good example by maintaining a neat & orderly campsite.

·    Reporting necessary repairs to park staff.

·    Assisting with special programs and campground activities (see Special Events below)

·    Assisting in the Camp Office (e.g. telephone, filing, etc.)

·    Cleaning up campsites and fire rings on your road(s).

Campground Hosts are initially contracted for a 28-day period. If their service is satisfactory,

new contracts may be negotiated at the park manager's discretion to cover service up to

a maximum of three months between April 1 and October 31.

Hosts typically work in the park five days a week (including weekends and holidays),

an average of four hours per day. Reduced schedules may be arranged depending upon

the operational needs of the park as determined by the park manager.

Campground Hosts must provide their own camping equipment and they receive a free

campsite in return for services  provided. The location of the site is at the discretion of

the manager. The site should be identified by a campground host sign which is available

from the park manager.

While on duty, Campground Hosts wear a Volunteer ball cap or visor,  and nametag which are

furnished free of charge by the park. Campground Hosts are considered "on call" while they are

in residence at the campground. During the days a host is not scheduled to work, the campsite may

be left unoccupied, although camping equipment should remain.
